What is a liquidation auction?

When a company is liquidated, its assets are sold in an insolvent liquidation auction in order to raise funds to fulfil financial obligations. The term liquidation refers to the process of closing a company with debts and selling assets to settle them with creditors. Examples of creditors include HMRC, suppliers, or other parties who are owed money. An insolvency practitioner will be instructed to act on behalf of creditors and close the company according to lawful obligations.

At Eddisons Asset Auctions, we provide liquidation auctions to sell a business’ assets during the closure procedure initiated by licensed insolvency practitioners. The items sold in a liquidation auction can vary depending on the business type, though it usually will contain physical assets such as the following:

What happens during a liquidation auction?

Liquidation auctions take place similarly to typical auctions. Prior to auction, the assets are valued by one of our expert asset valuation specialists, and then are marketed to buyers in order to reach the best price for the seller. The assets will be sold to the highest bidder and then funds from this are used to pay the companies’ creditors.

"Eddisons simplifies the liquidation auction process with expert guidance at every step. From valuing assets to attracting serious buyers, our streamlined approach ensures maximum returns for sellers and confidence for buyers.”

What are the benefits of buying through liquidation auctions?

While it is essential to raise the most return for creditors, liquidation auctions provide many benefits to prospective buyers. Assets must be sold within a quick period of time, offering a fast turnaround if you require a new purchase in a short period of time. Liquidation auctions provide an opportunity to buy commercial assets for a reduced price compared to retail value.
